The story
May was born in King Williams Town Eastern Cape, South Africa (now known as Qonce). May attended a convent in King Williams Town and attended Rhodes University where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts. While teaching in Bloemfontein May met and married James Ernest Bell. May and Ernest relocated to East London , Eastern Cape. There they raised four children.
May was accomplished in many areas. Not only was she an art teacher, she was also very involved in the community and the All Saints Church and the Women’s Guild. A special interest was gardening as well as Gardening Clubs. Pottery was also one of her many skills. May relocated to the Johannesburg region much later in life and lived at Randjes Estate retirement village. May passed away on June 9th 2009.
